After a municipal tree request

  1. Describe the tree and location on a boulevard, park, trail or green space. Urgent hazards receive immediate inspection; routine requests are prioritized.
  2. Allow longer for non-urgent work during the April-to-October peak season. City arborists prune for safety and clearance, not more sunlight or appearance.
  3. If removed, the city records the tree and marks it red. Uptown removals have signs two weeks ahead; stump work follows separately and replanting occurs when conditions permit.

Ash trees, insects and claims

The city checks ash trees annually for emerald ash borer. A red dot identifies an affected tree scheduled for removal. Report an unhealthy unmarked city ash tree.

The city does not spray insects under its pesticide practices. Nest removal is limited to nests within three metres of ground that create a safety risk.

A claim is separate from a maintenance report if you believe a city-owned tree caused damage and the city may be responsible. Park Services can help at 519-886-2310 or parkservices@waterloo.ca.
